General Warning Note

We still have a bug in the new Registration form: When you add your list of desired class codes, please make sure that the total length is no more than 83 characters including spaces. If it is longer than 83 characters, your submission will not be saved! If you have a long list of desired classes, break it up into several shorter registration submissions. I have modified the form so that it will not allow submissions of course codes totally more than 83 characters. You will get a message saying that your submission has more than 83 characters. Or you may get a message that the form could not be submitted and to try again later.

The TOALC Website is open for business. Course books were mailed out on Tuesday, August 11 to everyone registered in the last three years as well as those who asked to be placed on the mailing list in the last three years. The should turn up in your mailbox by the weekend.

Submission Form Changes

Both Membership and Course Registration forms were rewritten in "WIX Forms V2" code. (WIX is our web service). Our older forms rely on legacy forms that will disappear eventually. The new forms are more robust and we hope they will save us from the problems we experienced this past summer with occasional lost registration submissions and missing confirmation emails. Some important differences:

• Phone number fields: Your number must be a 10-digit number in any valid U.S. number or no format at all. You can enter it as 5705551212 or 570-555-1212 or (570)555-1212. It doesn't matter as long as it's a legitimate area code + 7 digits.

• There is no Captcha field to check, no pictures of cars to click, etc. You will be prompted to prove you're human only if you do not behave like a robot. What constitutes robot behavior exactly? I don't know. I'm a human. Really!

• "Success Pages": If you have filled out all fields correctly and fully (all fields have asterisks, indicating they're required), you will be taken to a "Thank You" page. In the past, members weren't sure if their submission "took" and often submitted the same registration two or three times just to be on the safe size. Now you'll know for sure.

• From the Thank You page, click on the button to return to the home page. Or use the menu at the top to go to a different page on the web.

• Confirmation Messages. You should get a confirmation from "info@theoalc.org" (our email address) when you submit a registration or membership form. There will be a link to return to the TOALC website if you wish to do so. We have removed the button to go from registration submissions to the Membership payment page. You only need to pay for one membership per trimester, no matter how often you register.

• Depending on how your mail service or app delivers email, our email confirmations may go to spam or a mail folder other than your primary mail folder. If you experience that problem, it may help to add TOALC "info@theoalc.org" to your list of email contacts.

• The online Membership payment form no longer supports manual payments. In the past, a person could order a membership online but promise to pay by cash or check at a later date rather than continuing to the screens that accepted credit card information. Starting this fall only credit card payments will be accepted online. You can still pay by check through the mail or by check or cash in person at the TOALC office.

• Country/Region: When you submit a membership, the payment acceptance forms will ask you for Country/Region and present a dropdown list of the world's countries. Just start typing United States and by the time you get to the first "t", you should be provided with a short dropdown list from which you can select "United States".

If You Encounter Errors on the TOALC Website

Please contact the TOALC office by phone (t70-422-7810) or by email (info@theoalc.org). Our office is open 9:30 - 11:30 weekdays. The more information you can give us about the problem you encountered, the easier it will be for us to rectify the problem. Please let us know:

• Any error message you encountered

• The URL of the page you were visiting

• What you were doing at the time the problem occurred

• What happened

• The time of the incident

• What type computer or phone you were using to access the website.

Course books are off-white this year

The mill that is our printer's only known source of the canary yellow paper in the U.S. was taken out by a recent tornado.

Course books at the Hughes Library

You will find them on one of the low tables in the hallway that leads to the big meeting room, across from the conference room and rest rooms. If they've run out, let the TOALC office know at 570-422-7810 so we can resupply the library.
